Metrics for Success

Student Outcomes:

Since Ditmas IS 62 became ON_DEC, the following are some of the positive outcomes:

  • Students have demonstrated year on year improvement in standardized test scores
  • Students showed more positive changes in attendance as compared to middle school
    students citywide
  • More than 90% of educators indicated that their productivity as a teacher increased as
a result of the use of technology
  • 75% of parents with more than one child reported that other children in the household are using the ON_DEC computer for schoolwork and to improve their academic skills

Summary of Impact- ON_DEC program
  • Close to 5,000 PCs installed in students homes, creating a “digital community” in Brooklyn, NY of over 19,000 people and close to 4,000 people in Tampa, Florida.   For the majority of families, the ON_DEC computer they receive is the only working computer in the household.
  • Nearly 5,250+ hours of staff professional development including training on software applications, using data in instruction, creating new curriculum and lessons anchored in using the tools of technology in the classroom
  • 23,020+ hours of parent training between both communities
  • Close to 2,000 JPMorgan Chase volunteers have been involved – many volunteering each year.  To date, employees have given close to 37,200 hours of service to the program

Validated by Policy Studies Associates, Inc. (PSA)

A three year longitudinal study of the ON_DEC model was performed by PSA, an independent research firm. The research indicates that the ON_DEC program can be an effective model for infusing technology into an entire school community and improving student outcomes.  If you are interested in this research, please contact dkoon@logonforlearning.org

Findings show significant progress in areas fundamental to academic success.

Research based on a Theory of Change:

PSA studied ON_DEC's implementation at Ditmas IS 62 for three years.  Findings show significant progress in areas fundamental to educational development: Student performance (e.g. test scores, attendance), expectations for their performance in school, and their educational aspirations have risen.  A community of students, families, educators and volunteers has strengthened and increased family accountability, communication, educational focus, and changed culture.
